How Farmers Cooperative Creamery Does Their Part

Waste Water Treatment

Processing top quality dairy products requires lots of water and chemicals for washing equipment and keeping everything sparkling clean.  When completed with these jobs, the question becomes what to do with the resulting wastewater?  The challenge is to clean up that water so that contaminants don’t get into streams and pollute the environment for people, fish and wildlife.

In the past dairy food processors simply flushed wastewater down the drain and passed the problem on to the municipality in which the plant was located.

But NOT today.

At FCC, all wastewater, about 75,000 gallons every day, gets routed into a complex filtration operation, called the Dissolved Air Floatation (DAF) system.

Only then does the pretreated water go to McMinnville’s wastewater treatment plant where further processing is required.

The City of McMinnville likes what we are doing, and appreciates the successes that have been accomplished.  They have indicated

“FCC and the City of McMinnville’s Water Reclamation Facility Pretreatment Program have developed a partnership to meet the needs of the environment, the City and FCC as well.  The pretreatment system is intended to protect the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) from pollutants that could be harmful to the WRF’s microbiological water treatment system or to the sewer structure.  FCC has invested time and expense in order to fine-tune their pretreatment system, and to make production process changes that have enhanced the pretreatment system’s effectiveness.  As a likely result of these changes, the Water Reclamation Facility has noted improvements in its microbiology from previous years.  When the microbiological organisms at the WRF are maintained at a “healthy” state, the treated water returned to the Yamhill River is of high quality.  In the years to come the City’s Pretreatment Program and FCC intend to continue down the path of partnership for environmental protection and business success.”

Farmers Co-op understands the need to protect the environment; DAF helps fulfill that commitment.

RECYCLING

We are proud to be a company that values recycling.

It is quite simple here.

If it can be recycled, we can do it!

From pop cans and office paper to cardboard boxes and wood pallets used for shipping we recycle it!

From scrap metal to used motor oil, we recycle it!

We are a company established by farmers that have a longtime commitment to protecting the environment. Recycling is an ongoing part of that commitment.
